Practices of Jesus
Generosity is love in motion.
God's love is never stagnant. It moves toward people. It gives. It sacrifices. It blesses. It shares. It serves.
The more we abide in Christ, the more His generous heart becomes our own.
As we become more and more like Jesus, as we remove all the things that so easily entangle us and adopt the ways of Jesus things begin to open up and we naturally become more generous. When we slow down, live more simply, when we live under our means verses being chronically overextended, we have margin and are able to give. This new way of life opens us up to so many possibilities to generosity.
God is generous. When we look at the love centered relationship between The Father, Son and Spirit, we see a generous out flow of love, forgiveness, and grace. The gospel teaches us that “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son…and that Son also gave us the Spirit.
And so you and I get to participate as apprentices of Jesus in this ministry of generosity. When we give our money, time, resources, and love, we are joining God in this out flow of love. We get to be truly blessed as the vessels that God uses for this outflow. It is true what Jesus said himself over 2000 years ago that sociologists are just beginning to understand, it is truly better to give than to receive. Any of us that have given of ourselves, we get this and understand it to be so.
